Geoffrey Gifford

Biography

Geoffrey Gifford is a multidisciplinary artist working across sculptural objects, painting, generative digital work and long-form fiction. His work explores the psychology of modern experience and formal ideas about contemporary sculpture.

He trained in sculpture at the South Australian School of Art (BFA) before a long career in design. In Australia he produced work for the Sydney Theatre Company, Sydney Opera House Trust, SBS, Adelaide Festival, Sydney Festival and Melbourne International Festival, and created images and designs for bands including INXS, Icehouse and Mental as Anything. From 1994 to 2010 he lived in the United States, working with The Walt Disney Company, W Hotels, AOL, Time Warner, Gagosian Gallery and Barclays, and building digital projects for Ed Ruscha and Dominick Dunne.

His graphic work is held in the collections of the Powerhouse Museum, the National Gallery of Victoria and the Royal Library, London. He returned to Australia in 2010 and works from his studio in Adelaide.
